True Heroes of Flanders

In 2020 we honour the true heroes of Flanders.

The Tour of Flanders. A monument in cycling but like so many other events, the high mass of one-day cycling races didn’t go through during the Covid pandemix. On Sunday April 5th 2020, the legendary Koppenberg remained quiet.

It was an opportunity for Het Nieuwsblad to honour a different kind of hero: our healthcare workers. As a tribute, the names of aid workers with the same last name as well-known cycling heroes were painted along the length of the infamous slope. No Wout but Monique Van Aert, no Tiesj but Dirk Benoot.
